Our man Paul is Taylor-made for signings, says Corney

Date published: 20 June 2012

ATHLETIC chairman Simon Corney feels the persuasive powers of his manager are crucial when it comes to getting wavering players to sign for the club.

Dan Taylor was on the verge of becoming a part of Graham Westley's revolution at Preston North End, before a final-hour intervention instead brought him to talks at Boundary Park.

After meeting with Latics boss Paul Dickov, the 19-year-old was convinced that his future should lie at Boundary Park, as he forges a path in the professional game.

The former Newcastle prospect's abilities are unproved at this level — as with fellow young signing, Connor Brown, he has not played a single Football League match — but Corney backs his manager when he says that the potential to become a striker of note is present within a player rated highly by Toon reserves boss Peter Beardsley.

"He comes to us very highly thought of and highly recommended," Corney said.
