NOTHING DOING . . . the space where the old Broadway Stand used to be.
OLDHAM Athletic hope to submit a planning application for a new stand as the new season begins.
Chairman Simon Corney has revealed work is progressing on plans to replace the old Broadway Stand — demolished four years ago as part of an ambitious redevelopment plan which was scrapped due to the recession.
Though it has taken a lot of time and money and suffered major setbacks — in particular the Failsworth debacle — in reaching this stage, Corney is hopeful this time the work will pay off.
"We may have a planning application submitted in four to six weeks," said the chairman.
"Nobody hold me to that, but it is the schedule we are aiming for.
After planning deliberations — probably lasting three to four months — planning will start on the build itself The club’s plan is for a ground that will create new business outside of match days.
"Whatever we build, it is going to bring in a lot of income for the club," Corney said.
Further details on the proposals are expected to be released soon.
Meanwhile three or four new players are expected to arrive at Boundary Park before the club's first game of 2012-13 (August 13).
Athletic have a friendly at Mossley next Wednesday (7pm) at which recent signings Lee Croft, Jonathan Grounds, Dan Taylor and Connor Brown will be in action.
