JAMES Wesolowski admits the core of players Athletic have retained helped make his decision to stay at Boundary Park.
The influential midfielder (24) signed a two-year contract to stick with the club.
The Sydney-born battler missed the last third of his first campaign in an Athletic shirt as a result of surgery on a troublesome shoulder.
Regaining full fitness again, he is training hard to try to play a fuller part in the 2012-13 season and beyond.
“I thought about it (the contract offer) for a while,” said Wesolowski, who has twice broken his leg in an injury-interrupted career in English football which began as a teenager at Leicester City a decade ago.
“But at the end of the day I love playing under the gaffer (Paul Dickov) and with the other players who had re-signed, like Robbie Simpson. With Dean Furman still here as well, there is still a strong core.
“I am really looking forward to getting stuck into the season and hopefully we can improve on last year.
PAUL Black has signed for Tranmere on a one-year deal.
The 22-year-old left-back was released by Athletic after last season and joins up with former Boundary Park boss Ronnie Moore at Prenton Park.
Black replaces Rovers' player of the season David Buchanan, who has left to join Preston.
Filipe Morais, who turned down Athletic’s offer of a new contract, is reportedly training under Graham Westley at Preston.
