Chase still on for Clarke

WHILE Paul Dickov’s efforts to nail down at least one new striker have not been rewarded, Athletic’s manager has stopped short of admitting the chase for Leon Clarke is dead.
The impressive Portuguese triallist is one player Dickov hopes to secure sooon.
As for bringing in a proven goal poacher, the Scot admits potential candidates must first accept the club can’t afford to pay much.
“It is going to be hard,” said Dickov of the bid for Clarke, who is still under contract but available for transfer from Charlton.
“What we have to do, as we have with James Wesolowski and Robbie Simpson, is to try and get them here for the right reasons.
“It has to be the right character who wants to come here and work hard.
Tomorrow’s opponents at Boundary Park (3pm kick-off), Huddersfield Town, are blessed with more money and have signed players to boost the squad.
Athletic hope to arrange two friendlies for next week.
