ALEX Cisak: I want to get better
Cisak: I want to get better
NO matter how fine-tuned the preparations, along can come a phone call that forces thinking to be turned on its head.
With its current make-up of cash-strapped inhabitants, no club in Athletic's division can afford to close its ears when money starts talking.
So when summer rumours circulated of an upcoming £300,000-plus bid from Peterborough for Alex Cisak, his rival Dean Bouzanis looked close to becoming the number one of manager Paul Dickov by default.
But no firm bids mean Dickov faces something of a dilemma.
Bouzanis, a former Liverpool talent, re-signed with the intention of building on the all-action promise he showed towards the end of last term, when Cisak was injured.
But after a couple of early howlers, Cisak’s skill grew visibly and he ended the season as one of the team’s best performers.
And even though he trains daily alongside Bouzanis with goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard, he is determned to start the season as number one keeper
"I play and train as hard as I can anyway, so Bozuanis being here hasn't made a difference to me - maybe for him, he has to work harder to try to overtake me.”
PAUL Dickov believes he is as blessed as anyone in npower League One when it comes to goalkeepers.
With Cisak and Bouzanis both on the books in a tight squad. it is one position that needs no strengthening.
“There is a healthy competition between the two of them,” Dickov said.
“If you look through the whole division you will be hard-pushed to find a better two.
"At their age and with the attitude they have both got they are only going to improve, which is great for us."
