BACK WITH LATICS: On-loan Derby winger Lee Croft is aiming high this season.
Previous joys enticed wide man back to Boundary Park
IF THE lure of once again making good at Boundary Park had held any less appeal for Lee Croft, the winger’s season would already be under way by now.
After starring on loan for St Johnstone last season, the Derby man had been expected to head back to Scotland to resume his career.
Instead Croft (27) chose to join Oldham.
“It was a tough decision,” admitted Croft. “I was close to going back to St Johnstone They had a qualification game to get into Europe and it was tempting.
“But it was about the affiliation I have with oldham, the fact I enjoyed myself here last time and the relationship I have with the gaffer that was the main pull.”
Athletic’s gain is St Johnstone’s loss, going by the classy glimpses Croft has provided in pre-season. His main responsibility is to produce telling deliveries into the penalty area from wide positions. That role should not be a problem.
He hopes to replicate the good form he showed in helping St Johnstone to a top-six place in the Scottish Premier League.
Croft credits his spell with Athletic as a teenager eight years ago as having a huge impact on his career.
His task is now to add experience and push Athletic into the top half of League One.
