CAPTAIN Dean Furman admitted that Athletic simply were disappointing against MK Dons, targeting a three-point boost against Walsall tomorrow (7.45pm kick-off), writes
"We weren't good enough in the first half, plain and simple, and it is something we have to put right quickly," he said.
"You don't let in goals from set plays. It is a crushing blow. We will work on it and we know we have got to improve on that area.”
Attentions turn now to the Saddlers test and Furman knows the importance of a good home record.
"We want to make Boundary Park a fortress this season," he added. "We look forward to getting back there, to put on a good performance for our fans and get that win to get our season going."
ATHLETIC are sweating on the fitness of midfield linchpin James Wesolowski.
The 24-year-old suffered a hamstring strain late in Friday's training session prior to the MK Dons game.
He is to have a scan on the injury tomorrow and won't play in the first home fixture of the season against Walsall.
CRISTIAN Montano made his debut from the start at MK Dons after signing for Athletic from West Ham for an undisclosed fee on Friday.
ATHLETIC'S under-18s were in action at Chapel Road this afternoon, taking on Blackpool in a Lancashire FA Youth Cup quarter-final tie (2pm kick-off).
