Dickov unhappy at finger pointing

Date published: 21 August 2012

ATHLETIC manager Paul Dickov has spoken of his frustration that opposite number Karl Robinson used the post-match press conference to have a dig at one of his players on Saturday.

While Dickov downplayed the furore at the final whistle which saw Antony Kay receive a red card, the MK boss told reporters Robbie Simpson, who was not sent off, should have been dismissed earlier in the game.

Dickov pointed out gently that Alan Smith, Dean Lewington and Gary MacKenzie could all on a different day have been dismissed.

"I'm slightly disappointed with the talk that Robbie Simpson should have been sent off," admitted Dickov.

"I could have ranted about three of their players that should have been red-carded, but what's the point?

"The thing is, Robbie is not a nasty player.

"He was getting smashed every time he got the ball. When that happens, for both teams, you are looking for the referee to show a bit of consistency to protect the players who want to play football. I don't think either team got that."

ATHLETIC are away at Chesterfield in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the game takes place at the B2net Stadium on Tuesday, September 4 (7.45pm).

There are 900 seats for Athletic fans.
