Slew can bring us up to speed

JORDAN Slew has been backed to be an Athletic success - provided the team starts to play to his strengths.

The loaned Blackburn striker (20) will face his former club Stevenage tomorrow, providing he gets over a back complaint.

Having scored in an impressive debut against Sheffield Wednesday, the forward was left chasing lost causes at MK Dons for much of the game and had a patchy game against Walsall.

Manager Paul Dickov has designed his side to make use of Slew's pace and is determined that Athletic will start to utilise him properly.

"Jordan is here to make a mark and we know what his assets are," said Dickov. “Jordan is here so we can stretch teams, to get the likes of Robbie Simpson, Cristian Montano and Lee Croft on the ball.”

Dickov hopes Athletic could be boosted by the return of hamstring injury victim James Wesolowski by the time of the away game at Brentford on September 22.

Youssouf Mchangama is set to continue alongside captain Dean Furman in central midfield against Boro tomorrow.

James Tarkowski missed training yesterday, but it was hoped he was fit enough to take part in today's session.
