Dean on international duty

DEAN Furman will miss two games after being named in the South Africa squad.
DEAN Furman has been called up for international football for South Africa.
The call-up is a double-edged sword for Athletic.
The influential captain is part of a 25-man squad for a friendly against Brazil in Sao Paulo on September 7 and a game against Mozambique in South Africa four days later.
Furman, admitting he is “proud and honoured to be called up by my country”, says the focus will be on an important league match before the trip.
While a great honour for the uncapped player, Furman’s call-up presents problems for Paul Dickov, who has only Youssouf Mchangama and young pair Carl Winchester and David Mellor to call on as central midfielders.
