DEAN FURMAN: playing for South Africa against mighty Brazil would be a career highlight.
Latics skipper set to be unleashed on Samba stars
DEAN Furman will be told to go at Brazil full-pelt if he wins his first full South Africa cap tomorrow.
The chances of Athletic's captain getting on the field in the prestigious Sao Paulo friendly (7.45pm kick-off) increased this week when countryman Steven Pienaar pulled out through injury.
If he plays against world-class players like Neymar, Hulk and Thiago Silva, Furman will be instructed to play at a fast pace.
"South Africa have played too defensively," said Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund, ahead of the game against a side ranked 62 places higher by FIFA.
"The team must play much quicker and with African flair."
Cape Town-born Furman (24) will stay with the side for a home friendly against Mozambique in Mbombela on Tuesday.
Last time midfielder played was in the squad, he was an unused substitute
Athletic have two other players in action tomorrow. Carl Winchester and Kirk Millar are in the Northern Ireland under-21 squad for the European Championship clash with Macedonia at the Oval (7.45pm).
