Jose Baxter, in action for the reserves yesterday, is hoping to tie up a deal by the end of the week.
TALKS on signing Jose Baxter continued today as Athletic try to boost their forward line in time for the Notts County game.
Chairman Simon Corney spoke with the player’s agent to discuss a deal for the ex-Everton wonder-kid - possibly short term initially.
Baxter, who wore number 10 for most of the reserves’ 2-1 win over Hartlepool at Chapel Road yesterday, said he “definitely” wants to sign for the club.
“Hopefully by the end of the week I should know, so fingers crossed,” said the 20-year-old.
Bootle-born Baxter showed flashes of the promise that elevated him to the highest level yesterday.
The player says inaction has take its toll on her fitness, but believes he isn’t far short of his best form.
“It felt good to get back on to the pitch and to get some fitness back,” he said, after playing for 78 minutes.
“It has been a frustrating time, just sitting round the house and going to the local gym. I am fit, but I need to be a bit sharper. That will come with games.”
