Dean Furman: not a bit tired
PAUL Dickov believes Dean Furman will have an extra spring in his step when he takes to the pitch tomorrow — despite clocking up 16,500 air miles in two weeks.
Athletic's captain joined the South African team in Brazil to play the national side — his first international cap — last Friday, then flew on to South Africa to be man-of-the-match against Mozambique on Tuesday. He flew back to London from there, and reached Oldham yesterday.
Dickov reckons the boost of his first international recognition will rub off not only on his own performance, but the team's too.
"He's had a little holiday in Brazil and South Africa," joked Athletic boss Dickov. "If anything, adrenaline will get him through against Notts County, even if he is a little bit tired. He’s buzzing; I couldn't shut him up when I spoke to him. Hopefully his confidence will rub off on everyone else."
Dickov knows he has a difficult task combating Keith Curle's side, which tops the league.
"Keith Curle has changed the way they play from last year. They like to get the ball down and have a lot of attacking players. But so have we. It is a game that we feel we can win."
