Dickov ponders striker choices
THE get up and go shown by Jose Baxter has given Athletic manager Paul Dickov food for thought ahead of tonight’s game against Scunthorpe.

The former Everton player volleyed home one chance and buried a terrific but disallowed header against Notts County at the weekend.

“It gives me a lot to think about,” said Dickov, who admitted delight over his new attacking options.

Baxter’s lack of full-match sharpness could mean he stays on the bench tonight as Athletic reach for a first home victory of the season.

Robbie Simpson, who drove a penalty over the crossbar against County, could get another chance to get off the goals mark for the season. Otherwise Smith, who scored against the Iron last term, may be thought a suitable partner for goal-getting debutant Matt Derbyshire.

“What we have now is the option to change things, possibly depending on who we are playing against,” added Dickov.

“Robbie just needs one goal to get him going again.”

With Cliff Byrne likely to stick at centre-back against the club he turned out for on 316 occasions and Connor Brown serving the final game of his three-match suspension, Reece Wabara — who only met the players 90 minutes before the County game kicked off on Saturday — keeps his place after impressing at right-back against the Magpies.
