DEAN Furman has described his feelings on realising he was about to win his first cap against Brazil.
Athletic’s captain was named South Africa’s man-of-the-match in the friendly win over Mozambique, four days after his international debut in Sao Paulo against the sport’s most iconic team.
“It was an unbelievable experience,” said Furman, whose last international involvement was as a non-playing sub four years ago.
“On the second day I found myself involved in quite a few exercises and things the manager was looking to implement. He said not to read too much into it.
“Then on the next day he asked if I would do a specific job. I only found out I was playing about an hour before the game.
“I just wanted to go out and do myself justice by giving it everything I had.”
Furman didn’t manage to get hold of a Brazil player’s shirt afterwards, but own South Africa jersey s more than a half-decent memento, he says..
