New routine suits Wabara just fine

REGULAR games are proving to be quite the tonic for Reece Wabara as he sets about making up for lost time.

The on-loan Manchester City man (20) has so far played three times in Athletic colours, impressing with his top-class composure in possession.

Though the right-back had three months in the Championship with Ipswich last season, the club's difficulties on the field meant he only managed to get one start.

For an ambitious player - one expected eventually to play in the premier league - that isn't enough. Nor is simply hanging around hoping to get a few minutes here and there with City.

"Playing on Saturdays and Tuesdays is a big difference for me," said Wabara, a player named captain of England under-20s last year.

"Sometimes we don't have a reserve game for two weeks. So hopefully, I am improving for it.

"I need to be playing every week and be put in the shop window.

"If that means playing for City, great, but if not then I will make a career elsewhere."

Athletic boss Paul Dickov likes what he sees in Wabara, a player he has been chasing down for some time.

The player is due to return to Eastlands on October 22, but is keen to remain if Athletic can extend the loan.
