REECE Wabara has been a big hit since joining Athletic on loan from Manchester City.
PAUL Dickov is hoping for positive news on Reece Wabara to take into a highly-anticipated clash at Sheffield United tomorrow.
Athletic’s manager held talks with Manchester City bosses today over the possibility of extending Wabara’s loan deal. The 20-year-old defender is due to return to Eastlands a week tomorrow after Athletic’s home game against Leyton Orient.
Matt Derbyshire, also on loan, has a week longer on his arrangement. The in-form striker returned to Nottingham Forest this week for a meeting.
“When we brought him (Matt) in, it was with a view to extending,” said Dickov. “He is delighted to be here and has no interest in going anywhere else.
“With them both, it does come down to parent clubs. I am sitting down with Manchester City to try to get something sorted out (over Wabara) as well.”
Dickov is hopeful injured defensive duo Jean-Yves Mvoto and James Tarkowski will be fit for tomorrow’s game. Both had fitness tests today.
Dickov is emphatic his side will try to halt the Blades’ unbeaten run, though he is intent on keeping his squad’s feet on the floor.
“Nobody outside of Boundary Park will expect us to get something and the pressure is off. We will take the shackles off and have a right good go at them.”
