ATHLETIC chief executive Neil Joy believes the club’s fans are getting value for money following a BBC survey.

Research into 166 clubs across 10 British divisions established the most expensive and cheapest season tickets, adult match-day tickets, cheapest day out — and the cost of tea, a pie and a programme.

Athletic avoided headline-grabbing pie-outrage revelations — unlike Kidderminster Harriers of the Conference Premier, whose £4 for a pie is the nation’s most expensive.

Boundary Park boasts the joint-cheapest pie in npower League One, at £2.50.

Of the division’s 24 clubs, Athletic offers the 11th cheapest day out - £26.20, including ticket, programme and refreshments.

Joy said: “Football is becoming more expensive at the top of the game, but you can get excellent value for money at the lower end.

“We charge 45p a home match in a £10 season ticket for children; people can come and watch football for a reasonable price. The outcome of the survey is positive for our club and we are pleased.”

The cheapest match-day ticket for home fans at Boundary Park costs £19, which is about average for League One. But the club’s most expensive ticket is only £20, which puts it near the bottom of the cost league.

Season tickets aren’t quite such good value: the most expensive season ticket is £399, putting the club in joint eighth place, while its cheapest is £303 and 15 clubs charge less.

As far as a cuppa goes, Athletic are mid-table. The £1.70 cost puts them joint 12th. All clubs in the league charge £3 for a programme.
