MATT Derbyshire wants to stay with Athletic for a further six weeks.

After scoring for a fourth time, the 26-year-old Nottingham Forest striker told the Chronicle he is hoping to remain at Boundary Park with manager Paul Dickove until early December.

“I will sit down with the gaffer,” said Derbyshire, who fired home the first goal in Athletic’s 2-0 win over Leyton Orient at Boundary Park on Saturday.

“Hopefully, he wants me to stay for another six weeks. I am happy playing my football here.”

Dickov confirmed he has spoken to Forest — “on the football side of things they are happy for him to stay,” he said.

If an agreement can be reached with Forest, Derbyshire could feature up to the home game with Swindon on December 15

The player is content to play for a team currently in excellent form ahead of tomorrow night’s journey to Carlisle. He isn’t so taken, as yet, with his goals tally.

“I am not happy, no,” he said of his four goals in eight appearances strike rate.

“We are playing well. The lads are really grafting. If we keep playing as we are, we will have no problems shooting up the table.”

Derbyshire admitted his 77th-minute goal at the weekend had a whiff of handball about it, but felt the referee made the correct choice to allow play to continue
