REECE WABARA has thrived on the backing of Athletic boss Paul Dickov.
REECE Wabara would be happy to play for Athletic beyond his second month on loan at the club.
Manchester City's right back produced his most defensive-minded performance yet in helping 10 men to a point at Crawley at the weekend.
Athletic manager Paul Dickov is hopeful the club will get the green light from the Premier League champions to field Wabara in the FA Cup first-round tie at Kidderminster on Saturday.
"It is good here," said Wabara (20). "I am playing games and I would like to think I am playing well. There is much more to come, hopefully, and the manager has had great faith in me, which I appreciate."
The fly in the ointment - from Athletic's point of view - could be the injury to Micah Richards, who suffered a knee injury against Swansea and may be out until Christmas.
With Maicon two weeks from returning and Pablo Zabaleta struggling to make Saturday's game at West Ham, City might choose to recall Wabara as cover.
The player is due to remain with Athletic until mid-November, and Dickov is keen to keep him for the rest of the season.
Wabara was particularly pleased with the team's defensive effort the 1-1 draw at Crawley.
"The boys were excellent and our shape was top-quality," Wabara said. “To be down to 10 men for 70 minutes and still stay as defensively solid as we did was great.”
