ATHLETIC’S goal hero Jonathan Grounds shows his Shrewsbury rivals a clean pair of heels.
GOAL hero Jonathan Grounds revealed that he hadn’t featured on the wing since his teenage days, after his strike proved enough to see off Shrewsbury.
The 24-year-old netted with his weaker right foot after stepping into the shoes of suspended winger Cristian Montano.
While admitting left-back remains his first-choice position, the former Middlesbrough man was happy to help out boss Paul Dickov on his own return from a one-game ban.
“The manager said that on the back of the lads doing well at Hartlepool that he wanted to keep the same back four, which is fair enough,” said Grounds, whose only other experience on the wing was in youth team football.
“It was something different for me and I quite enjoyed it. I know the manager always encourages Cristian to get in at the back post and that was running through my mind.
“For the goal, I just tried to gamble a bit and the ball broke for me in the box.”
