Long association ends

VICTIM: Lee Duxbury
POPULAR Lee Duxbury’s second spell at Athletic drew to a close this week, ending the Yorkshireman’s 12-year association with the Boundary Park club.
The reserve team boss, plus assistant manager Gerry Taggart and sports scientist Paul Butler, have paid the price for the squad not producing the goods on the pitch this season.
The 43 year old, from Keighley, made 248 league appearances in Athletic’s midfield between 1997-2003.
Duxbury netted 34 goals for Athletic before switching to Bury and after a spell at Gigg Lane, went on to play in Ireland before embarking on a coaching career at non-league Farsley Celtic. Duxbury returned to Athletic as a coach under John Sheridan in 2006 and took over the reserve team.
