Everything I did seemed to come off — Simpson

ROBBIE Simpson admitted that his five-minute spell of sheer brilliance at Nottingham Forest was almost dream-like.

Despite only having one goal to his name in an injury-plagued season, the 27-year-old flipped the third-round FA Cup tie on its head with a pair of sizzling second-half strikes.

The goals, a 25-yard shot and a back-post header, arrived within four minutes of each other.

Simpson would even have notched an amazing five-minute hat-trick but for a save by the legs of Forest ’keeper Lee Camp.

“It was quite surreal,” admitted a player who only came back into the side as a result of a suspension for James Wesolowski.

“Everything seemed to be coming to my feet and everything I did seemed to come off for that five-minute spell.

“It is lucky, because there were times in the first half where nothing went for me.

“As a player, you keep going and keep working hard and keep being brave and wanting the ball even when you are not playing well.

“And then you will get little spells when it goes for you.”
