SLIDE SHOW: Jose Baxter and Youssouf Mchangama join the celebrations after Robbie Simpson (centre) equalised for Athletic.
SIMON Corney paid tribute to the collective effort of Athletic's staff after a traumatic week ended gloriously with the victory against Nottingham Forest.
Though manager Paul Dickov remained, assistant Gerry Taggart, sports scientist Paul Butler and first-team coach Lee Duxbury were all put on “gardening leave” seven days ago.
Youth team supremo Tony Philliskirk stepped in, with centre of excellence manager Mick Priest and goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard taking up the slack.
A crucial mid-game position switch at the City Ground has prompted speculation that experienced tactician Philliskirk might be the board's number one choice to become Dickov's number two — should he want the job.
"I have always said that somebody like Philliskirk is what was needed," said Athletic chairman Corney.
I am very grateful not only to Tony Philliskirk but also Mick Priest, who has a very good eye for the game.
"It is not just about what they have done, but how they have helped us when we needed them."
