Robbie Simpson insists Athletic are fully focused on staving off the threat of relegation - rather than having one eye on Liverpool.
With only two npower League One fixtures before the glamour tie at Boundary Park, Athletic’s players might be forgiven for taking extra care on the pitch.
But nothing could be further from the truth, says Simpson, who has been playing wide on the left due to the injury-enforced absence of Cristian Montano.
“Let’s face it, we are not going to win the FA Cup,” said Simpson. “We knew what it would be like with the fans after last year against Liverpool, and it’s great to see them queuing for tickets.
“But we are in danger of being sucked back into the relegation places, so the next two matches at Coventry, and Notts County next Tuesday are very important.
“In fact, none of the lads in training this week have mentioned the Liverpool game at at all. The only game being talked about is the one at Coventry this weekend.”
