ATHLETIC hot-shot Lee Barnard has tipped friend and team-mate Jean-Yves Mvoto to cope with the daunting presence of Everton talisman Marouane Fellaini in tomorrow’s clash.

Southampton loanee Barnard, who has scored two goals in two games for Latics, has been pals with centre-half Mvoto since their Southend days.

After pinpointing Fellaini as the Everton danger man, he tipped a fit-and-firing Mvoto to thrive under the pressure.

“I know all about Jean’s strengths,” said Barnard. “He is a good man and a accomplished player, and has been in great form since my arrival at Oldham a couple of weeks ago.

“It is always reassuring to have a giant like him in your side. He fights for every ball. When he’s on form there aren’t many who can get past him.

“Fellaini is an absolute beast and we all know what he can do, in the air and on the deck.

“He doesn’t give opponents a moment’s peace and at times this season he has been unplayable.”

Barnard revealed there has been an extra spring in the step of Athletic players this week after the MK Dons victory.

Barnard added: “Training has been brilliant; the victory did wonders for morale. It wasn’t just getting three points, but the way we obtained them. I thought we played brilliantly.

With forwards Robbie Simpson and Matt Smith facing a race against time to be fit, Barnard is likely to be partnered by Chris Iwelumo.

“If I am selected, I don’t mind who is up there with me because they are all very talented players.

“The lads have already made plenty of chances for me and I hope to stick more away — starting with the Everton game.”
