CAPTAIN Dean Furman believes Athletic’s showed great “fight and courage” in the second half at Goodison Park.

The South African international was in the starting XI last night.

He felt a “disappointing” first half led to an uphill task for the underdogs - but they showed more bite for the last 45 minutes.

“We came out at half time and showed great fight, courage, and we made it difficult for them.

“The disappointment for us is we didn’t make it 2-1. They then went 3-0 up.”

Furman praised his housemate Matt Smith.

“When Matty came in, he caused big problems for them and scored another FA Cup goal.

“The form he is in at the moment is incredible.

“Everton were putting bodies on the line. They sloshed at clearances and we made it awkward for them in the last 30 minutes.”

The 24-year-old midfielder added: “The fans sang all night and, financially, it’s great for the club.,

“The whole journey has been fantastic - and will live with us for a very long time.”
