Moore demands Rovers response

FORMER Athletic boss Ronnie Moore insists his Tranmere side must bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at play-off rivals Yeovil.

Ed Upson’s second-half strike proved the difference between the two sides at Huish Park, leaving Moore (pictured) distinctly unimpressed as attention now turns towards Saturday’s Prenton Park clash against his former charges.

Generally it has been a great season for Rovers, though from a npower League One leading position at the turn of the year, they have now slipped to sixth place.

A run of five defeats in six games in late January/early February hindered progress, and last Saturday’s reverse proved frustrating, too.

Moore said: “One or two players looked a bit tired last weekend, and they know they let themselves and our supporters down.

“Unfortunately, we seem to have hit a bit of inconsistency just at the wrong time.

“We need to get that quality back sooner rather than later.

“We need to bounce back with a win against Oldham – a win that would restore some confidence and a bit of faith among our supporters.”

Moore, now in his third stint in charge of Rovers, managed Athletic for a largely-unsuccessful spell between March, 2005, and June, 2006.

He is expecting a tough fixture this weekend, despite his current side being undoubted favourites to win.

He said: “Oldham’s cup run was fantastic, but now they’re fighting for their lives near the bottom of the division.

“Both sides need to get a win, but we just need to get back to some free-flowing football.

“I don’t want to see Oldham go down of, course, but it goes without saying that that kind of thought will go right out of the window on Saturday.”
