YEOVIL Town boss Gary Johnson has spoken with pride at the appointment of his son, Lee as Oldham’s manager – but warned there won’t be any favours when Yeovil visit Boundary Park.

The Glovers’ chief believes history will be made at Boundary Park on April 16 and paid tribute to the Athletic hierarchy for awarding Lee his two-year contract.

“What a day the 16th could be with all the scenarios - Yeovil chasing promotion, Oldham battling relegation,” he said.

“Hopefully, he’ll keep them in the league but get beaten by us. I can’t wait; it will be a day in history.”

Gary believes his son will be a success at Boundary Park, adding: “Someone’s got a lot of faith in him apart from his dad. It’s credit to him; he’s worked very hard in the last three years. People have seen his strengths.

“From a dad’s point of view I’m disappointed he won’t be playing too much. He’s got two or three years left in him.”

Johnson Snr said Athletic new manager will be looking beyond preserving League One status.

“I think Oldham have got a young but very good man at the helm. He will be thinking long-term for the club as that’s how he has been brought up.”
