CHEQUE MATE . . . joint Chronicle Star Man winner Lee Croft.
LEE Croft, the joint winner of the Oldham Chronicle’s Star Man award for 2012-13, has confirmed he is currently negotiating a new contract.
”I’m still speaking to Oldham,” said the former Manchester City wing star (27). “Hopefully, I will know more at the beginning of June.”
Croft made 54 appearances during a season he ended on strong form - as did centre-back Jean-Yves Mvoto, the other winner of the £600 charity prize donated by the Indish Indian Restaurant Bar and Grill of Chadderton.
”Big Jean has had a very good season,” added Croft, on another of Athletic’s out-of-contract stars the club dearly wants to retain. “He’s a real athlete, the sort of a big strong centre-back every team needs.”
Mvoto, on holiday in France, will donate his half of the charity cash to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Croft is handing his to the Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley in memory of his cousin’s baby, Polly, who died shortly after birth. Derian House helped the family come to terms with their loss.
”I’m pleased to have won it and I think it is great that the Chronicle and Indish provide an award which gives money to charity,” he said.
