ATHLETIC manager Lee Johnson has again warned his players that nobody is guaranteed a place in the starting line-up.

After the 4-1 friendly victory over Macclesfield Town at Boundary Park, Johnson admitted the positive performances of certain players had left him with plenty to ponder.

The likes of Jonson Clarke-Harris and Cristian Montano particularly impressed against the side from the Conference Premier.

And with two friendlies remaining, at Accrington Stanley tomorrow (7.30pm kick-off) and at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, the field is open for every player to state his case.

“There’s lots to think about,” Johnson said. “Nobody can relax, and that’s the atmosphere I am trying to create.

“If you have an average game, there is someone chomping at the bit to get in front of you. Most good squads have that.”

Johnson — who could soon add an loan centre-back to the squad — felt the opposition provided a welcome test.

He was also moved to praise the work of the staff at Boundary Park in producing a renovated pitch a world away from the weather-beaten surface he experienced on his arrival at the end of last season.

ATHLETIC’S under-18s beat Grimsby 4-0 to make it three wins from three played in pre-season.
Jordan Bove (penalty), Danny Byrnes, Emile Tansinda and Haydn Foulds got the goals for the home side at Chapel Road.

ADMISSION for tomorrow’s game at Accrington has been slashed to £5 across the board, with accompanied under-12s gaining entry for £1.
