My best yet – Montano

CRISTIAN Montano’s special goal at Stevenage was arguably the best of his career.
The 21-year-old, Colombian-born front- man has scored 13 goals in pro football since his years with West Ham, but his effort on Saturday was very tasty.
Nicking the ball on the edge of his own penalty area from a poorly-taken Luke Freeman corner-kick, Montano set off on a run which culminated at the opposite end of the field with a deft chip that dropped beautifully into the net.
Montano said once he’d set off on his run, nothing was stopping him...
He said: “Once I’d got past the half-way line, I thought ‘I’m going to score here’.
“I needed to improvise a bit at the end, but I did that, and with my right foot as well. It was probably the best goal of my career.”
Montano’s strike fired Athletic into a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes to go, though they still had to rely on Jose Baxter’s late penalty winner.
Athletic boss Lee Johnson said: “That game was a heart attack waiting to happen.
“I thought we played really well, though. Our passing and movement were terrific at times.
“You could see what a big side Stevenage were and we had to deal with that. We always looked like the side that was going to be in the ascendancy.”
