JORDAN Bove struck FOUR times for Athletic’s under-18s, whose good start to the season continued despite the absence of several players.
Morecambe were beaten 6-0 by Tony Philliskirk’s side in the Football League Youth Alliance North West Conference.
It was a second win in three fixtures for Athletic, who have climbed to third in the table despite the match doing without eight of its regular players.
Schoolboys Jamie Stott and Zac Cooper were involved for Athletic to fill in the gaps in the squad.
Jordache Walters opened the scoring after 25 minutes, rounding the goalkeeper after taking a pass from Michael Brewster. On the stroke of half-time, Walters helped Bove to his first goal to double Athletic’s advantage. The home side came out strongly in the second half to fire home four more goals.
Jack Tuohy assisted Bove’s second and the striker’s hat-trick was completed from the penalty spot after Byrnes was brought to the ground.
Bove’s fourth goal was the best of the lot, moving infield from the left before striking into the far top corner of the net.
Byrnes rounded off a good morning’s work for the under-18s by winning a 50-50 contest with Morecambe’s goalkeeper.
