Weso earns Lee tribute

LEE Johnson admitted he was happy with the response his side provided in battling back to claim a point against Crewe.
Oliver Turton’s first-half opener was answered after the break by a Charlie MacDonald strike.
And though both teams had chances to claim all three points, Athletic’s manager was looking on the bright side.
“I am happy with a point after conceding first again,” said Johnson.
“We didn’t look great in the first half and you can’t carry four or five players having really poor games.
“At half-time I thought I had to change the shape. It created some natural angles for us and in putting James Dayton in the hole, he became dangerous.
“It got us a goal and we tried to get a winner. We had four or five really good chances in the game.
“It is disappointing: it was a game we felt we could win. But it was good to stop the rot and get a point and we can build on that now.”
One player who attracted praise was returning midfield man James Wesolowski, while there was a hint that MacDonald – now fully fit – is due a run in the team.
“Weso was magnificent,” Johnson added. “He was in the mix all the time.
“Charlie ran his socks off, as ever, and he will be disappointed he didn’t score in the first half. That’s two for him now; hopefully, he can have a run and get more.”
