‘Educated’ fans know the score, says Johnson

A run of two points from a possible 18 might set some club supporters (and boardrooms) on edge.

But not Oldham, says the league’s youngest boss. Johnson appreciates the backing of the club and its supporters — and says it is evidence of an educated fandom that can look beyond the results.

“Support has been fantastic and hasn’t wavered at all,” said Johnson. “I feel gutted for the supporters that we haven’t gained more than eight points so far. But I think they genuinely know and can see that we are doing the right things.

“I have been pleased with how educated the Oldham fans are. Things would certainly be different at another couple of clubs I have been at.”



Athletic are in discussion with Burnley over the return of full-back Joseph Mills.

One of the stand-out players in recent weeks, the 23-year-old player has steadily improved as his run here has gone on. The hope now is that Mills can extend his stay for another month to give him the maximum 93 days allowed.

Burnley are unlikely to object, but one hitch is the player’s minor calf injury. This caused his early departure against Preston, but shouldn’t prevent his return.

“It’s not getting worse or hindering him when he is running, it’s not getting better either,” said Johnson
