Montano pipped to prize

CRISTIAN Montano missed out last night as Manchester United striker Robin van Persie pipped the Athletic winger to the Goal of the Year prize at the North-West Football Awards.

Former Athletic favourite Jose Baxter was beaten to the League One player of the year award by Preston’s John Welsh, while Liverpool’s Jerome Sinclair won the rising star award ahead of Manchester United’s Ben Pearson, who hails from Chadderton.
