High five bridges two-year gap

Date published: 14 November 2013

ATHLETIC fans haven’t exactly been starved of goals so far this season – particularly in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy – but it is two years since their team last bagged five in a game.

Lee Johnson’s young side had Danny Philliskirk (two), James Tarkowski, James Dayton and Jonson Clarke-Harris on target in the 5-1 Trophy thumping of Notts County on Tuesday, and incredibly, only one current player survives from the 5-2 home League One victory against Chesterfield on November 19, 2011 – James Wesolowski, and he was out injured the other night.

In late 2011, Athletic roared into a 4-1 half-time lead, before sinking the Spireites 5-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Robbie Simpson and efforts from Kieran Lee and Shefki Kuqi.

The team which manager Paul Dickov picked that day was:

Cisak, Diamond, M’Voto, Black, Taylor, Wesolowski, Lee, Furman (Adeyemi), Simpson (Smith), Scapuzzi (Morais), Kuqi.

n ATHLETIC boss Lee Johnson was honoured by his former club, Yeovil.

A proud Johnson was named in the Glovers’ ‘Team of the Decade’ to mark the 10th anniversary of them becoming a Football League club.

Johnson dashed down to Huish Park straight after Athletic’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with Wolves to enjoy a celebratory dinner.

He and the others named in the ‘Team of the Decade’ were then guests of honour at Yeovil’s Sky Bet Championship game against Wigan Athletic on Sunday, which the other Latics won 1-0.
