Kusunga was superb before his dismissal in the 86th minute of a stormy contest at the Priestfield Stadium, won by Oldham thanks to a debut goal by Mike Petrasso.
But Angolan international defender Kusunga is now set to miss the next three games for seemingly grabbing at Kedwell’s neck - despite Johnson’s belief that he reacted as anyone would to a tackle from behind that propelled him off the pitch.
“We probably won’t even be able to appeal it, even though everyone in the ground knows he wasn’t the catalyst for the incident,” said Johnson.
“Their player scythed him down. Kusunga did a clever bit of play twice and their player has absolutely smashed him. Then he has gone for him as well, as he feels he is taking the mickey.
“For me, it is just football arrogance from Kusunga. If someone flips you over the hoarding like that, what are you going to do?
“I have asked the referee to have a look at it and no doubt he will, but I guarantee he won’t do us any favours.”
Scott took the advice of an assistant before showing Kedwell a yellow card and Kusunga a red.
The Geneva-born defender is expected to be banned for tomorrow night’s Sky Bet League One game at Shrewsbury, the home clash with Bradford on Sunday, December 1, and the home FA Cup second-round tie against Mansfield on Saturday, December 7.
ATHLETIC have finalised details for the home Northern area semi-final Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Chesterfield.
The game will be played on Tuesday, December 10, at Boundary Park with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Prices have been reduced to £10 adults and £5 concessions, with unreserved seating and no advance ticket sales.
