DANNY Philliskirk has some way to go to top his dad’s best-ever tally, but in the form he is in at the moment you wouldn’t bet against him managing it.

The 22 year old has alreay bagged eight goals in a startling career renaissance at Boundary Park.

The latest was a supremely confident left-footed finish to win three points at Shrewsbury on Tuesday.

Put that goal next to the effort at Wolves, the epitome of the close-range poacher’s strike, and it is clear Philliskirk has an eye for finding the net.

That said, he will need to maintain his hot streak in order to match the 26-goal tally his father Tony managed in his Bolton heyday back in the 1990-91 season.

“If I beat that by the end of the season, no doubt he will get a little bit of stick,” said Danny, one of the main protagonists responsible for Athletic games attracting so many scouts this season.

Whether he turns out on the right flank or in his preferred role down the middle against Bradford on Sunday, Athletic’s top scorer is simply happy to be playing after a summer of hanging on waiting for a contract offer from Doncaster which ultimately didn’t arrive.

“It is a critical time in my career and what I have needed to do is to get a run of games,” the former Chelsea prospect added. “Thankfully, that is what I have had since coming here.”
