Adam Rooney: ready to attack
A SHUFFLING of the playing pack could take place at Brentford tomorrow as Athletic attempt to claim a victory against a side manager Lee Johnson rates in the top two in the league.
“Adam Rooney has been looking very sharp in training,” said Johnson. “He could feature and so, too, could Ellis Plummer, who defended well in his first couple of games.
“Connor Brown is looking good in training as well and is back to where he was at the start of the
season, where I think he had a very good first five games.”
Johnson says that while Brentford have a potent mix of youth and experience in their well-heeled squad, Athletic are focused on hunting down three points.
Some may target the FA Cup second-round replay at Mansfield three days later as being of superior importance, but Johnson wants to win both games.
“It is important as far as I am concerned to go out for the win tomorrow and on Tuesday as well.”
James Wesolowski (hamstring) came through the Chesterfield game with no difficulties and captain Korey Smith, who was slightly troubled by tightness before that match, is said to be back at 100-per-cent fitness.
Kirk Millar is also making good progress in training as he recovers from calf and ankle injuries.
