James Dayton: hoping to play his part in a giant-killing act on Sunday.
JAMES Dayton won’t be fazed when he steps out into the cauldron of Anfield on Sunday.
Last season Athletic’s tricky wing man played for Kilmarnock and helped to defeat the giants of Celtic at Parkhead.
Liverpool have been more used to battling the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in the Premier League in the past couple of weeks. But Dayton knows that anything can happen in a one-off game.
Setting aside league form, he says Athletic must embrace the event to stand any chance of another upset.
“Liverpool is a great occasion in a superb stadium,” said Dayton. “But I am not going to stand there and be overawed by it. You have to go out and not let the crowd and the atmosphere get the better of you.”
The trick - easier said than done - it to capitalise on half-chances: “It is easy to break things down and to get blocks in, but so much harder to create that half-chance and when it comes, we have to capitalise. I am sure we will get those at Liverpool and if and when we do, we have to take them.”
