Jonson Clarke-Harris failed to make the most of a one-on-one with the Wigan goalkeeper.
ATHLETIC’S reserves drew a blank in losing to Wigan, a game featuring first-team squad members JP Kissock, Kirk Millar and Jonson Clarke-Harris.
Paul Murray’s side was seen off 2-0 in the Final Third Development League clash at Christopher Park, which extended the team’s winless run from September. For Murray though, the fact that his young side stuck to their task was worthy of praise.
“We had a few opportunities in the first half with Clarke-Harris breaking free,” he told the club website. “I am generally pleased, but they just had that little bit of quality at the end.”
Clarke-Harris found himself one-on-one with Wigan ’keeper Marko Marosi, who saved well before half-time, and three minutes after the interval Joey Johnson fired past Joel Coleman from the edge of the area to open the scoring.
With 20 minutes left, Guillermo Andres grabbed a second after a mistake from Coleman.
Carlisle came from behind to beat Coventry 2–1 at Sixfields last night, moving above Athletic in the Sky Bet League One table and up to 14th position.
MANCHESTER City’s under-18s are in action tonight at Boundary Park, taking on Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup. The game starts at 7pm.
