CHILDREN from St Joseph’s RC Primary School are only one round away from making it to Wembley.
The team will represent Athletic next month in Crewe, in the Northern finals of the Football League Kids’ Cup.
If they get through the stage the boys will be handed the chance to tread the hallowed turf before the Sky Bet League One play-off final in May.
“We are very proud of the boys,” said deputy headteacher Steve Hill. “It’s a massive achievement and we will be making sure we are fully prepared to give our very best for St Joseph’s, Athletic and the whole town of Oldham.”
St Joseph’s began last November by finishing top of their group and earning a spot at finals day at Chapel Road against seven other top teams. St Joseph’s claimed a high-quality final 4-1 to make it into the Northern finals.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for the boys,” said Oldham Athletic Community Trust manager Martin Vose. “They have beaten off competition from 35 other schools to reach this stage, so we wish them the best of luck.”
