Derby match arrests
Date published: 02 December 2014
NINE people were arrested as violence broke out during Latics’ 3-0 win over local rivals Rochdale on Saturday.
Twenty eight fans were also ejected from Spotland as flares and smoke bombs were set off.
In a video recorded by a pitchside photographer, two Latics fans can be seen running from Rochdale’s Pearl Street stand into the Willbutts Lane stand, which housed 3, 200 Latics fans, following Latics second goal. Another fan is seen restrained by four police in the Rochdale end.
Latics fans were made to buy their match tickets in advance of the game but Rochdale fans were able to pay on the day, which led to dozens of Latics fans sitting in the Rochdale stands.
