Brown back - and eager to impress

CONNOR Brown’s time at Carlisle has taught him two main lessons: it’s even colder in Cumbria than it is in Oldham, and he doesn’t suit rough-house League Two football as much as its more refined League One counterpart.

With this experience in mind, the 23 year old hopes to play a role under Lee Johnson once again.

“League Two is miles more physical and miles more direct,” said Brown, who made nine appearances for Keith Curle’s struggling side.

“It isn’t really a drop in standard as there are some good teams out there. But physically, there isn’t as much football, and being my size, more football suits me.

And it’s cold up there, 10 times worse than Oldham. It’s freezing!”

It’s unlikely to be a picnic-friendly climate at Fleetwood’s impressive Highbury ground tomorrow, with a forecast for strong winds, rain and maybe even snow.

But if Brown gets his chance to shine at left-back in place of suspended Joseph Mills, he won’t be concerned by the weather.

“Anywhere except centre-back,” said Brown, when asked about his position preferences in defence. “I am a bit too small and a bit too skinny for that. But I have played left-back loads of times in previous years for the club. I can do a job and put myself about.

“It was good to get game-time under my belt at Carlisle. I’m just trying to impress in training. I feel I am match-sharp now, so if the manager needs me I will be ready to get back in.”
