LEE Johnson described the performance of goalkeeper Jake Kean as “outstanding” as the new signing kept a clean sheet on his Athletic debut.

The loaned Blackburn player made a couple of important first-half saves, and punched and claimed crosses decisively.

And the performance on his return by substitute Jonathan Forte was also highlighted by the Athletic boss, with his strike adding to earlier goals by George Elokobi and Amari Morgan-Smith.

“He was absolutely outstanding,” said Johnson of Kean, who became the sixth different keeper to be named in a match squad this season: “Everything he did was safe, secure and very good.”

Jonathan Forte just has the bit of quality doesn't he? I was delighted that he got the goal after a great ball in from Connor Brown.

“I was really pleased,” Johnson added of his team's effort. “The boys were excellent and nice and solid. There weren't too many scary moments. It was a tough game because of the conditions.”
