Boo-boys are out of line

CHRIS Porter is fully expecting to come under fire from Athletic fans once again tomorrow, but feels the receptions he has had in the past have been unfair.

The Colchester striker is set to make his 400th career appearance at SportsDirect.com Park, having left Athletic after a goal-laden two years for Motherwell in controversial circumstances.

Porter’s departure for Scotland in the summer of 2007 left Athletic fuming, since no compensation headed the club’s way in a regulations loophole.

But the 31-year-old, who scored 28 goals in 66 appearances for Athletic, maintains it wasn’t down to him that the club ended up without a penny from the deal.

“I always get a bad reception at Oldham, so I’m used to it,” laughed Porter.

“When I moved from there, they never got any money for me. It wasn’t my fault, but the fans don’t see it that way.

“A lot of it was out of my control. I wish it wasn’t the case, because I had a really good time at Oldham.”

In his short time at the Essex club, Porter has contributed well by netting goals against Bradford and Crewe.

And on his milestone afternoon, he is hoping to creep closer to the mark of 100 league goals for his career. The Ex-Bury man is currently on 96.
