FORMER Oldham boss Lee Johnson has indicated he may swoop for Athletic players this summer.
The Barnsley manager is bidding to mount a promotion challenge in 2015-16, and could make bids for the likes of Athletic captain Liam Kelly, defender James Wilson and midfield man Carl Winchester — though all three are under contract and would command fees.
“They have certainly got some good players — and we are in for good players,” said Johnson.
“There is definitely something to be said for tried and tested players. We have got a lot of similar players at the moment, but we are looking for a certain type of DNA for the squad we are trying to build.”
Former Athletic defender Jean-Yves Mvoto, now with Barnsley, is set to return to France at the end of the season.
