GOALS from Danny Philliskirk and Dominic Poleon in the second half put Athletic through to a second-round meeting with Sheffield United.

Philliskirk netted with a clean left-footed finish after 70 minutes, making the most of a defensive slip in a game played out amid awful conditions in a windy, rain-laden SportsDirect.com Park.

And Poleon doubled up eight minutes later, shaping home with his right across Scott Shearer to seal the destiny of this first-round replay.

Athletic weren't at their best in the first half and Joel Coleman had to scramble back to deny Matt Green after an errant back-pass from Brian Wilson.

James Wilson also had to effect a sharp block to deny Green after the interval.

David Dunn's side turned up the heat around the hour mark, though, and were worthy winners against their League Two opponents.
