All change at the helm . . . Latics legend’s views on sacking
ATHLETIC legend Andy Ritchie reckons David Dunn might have been better served pulling on his boots more while in charge of the team.
A former player-manager at Boundary Park himself, Ritchie feels the man sacked by the club this week paid the price for not winning. But Ritchie also says Dunn didn’t use the full scope of his own talent.
“I hate it when managers get the sack, but it’s inevitable in football these days,” Ritchie said.
“It’s a business that is success-driven and David hasn’t had the best of times. Oldham are in a bit of a struggle with everything at the moment.
“Wins are what the fans and board want and unfortunately, David hasn’t had enough of them.
“I spoke with him a while ago at Rochdale and said he should get back to playing. I know it’s difficult. But I thought someone of his calibre is just what the team needed.”
